These units allow you to research careers in areas of the industry that appeal to you, and work at developing a range of skills in these areas, working towards planning and producing a final project.
This course will give you the opportunity to learn about different aspects of the sector called Creative Industries. The Creative Industries include:
Advertising
Animation
Film, Video, Photography
Software, computer games and electronic publishing
Music
Visual and performing Arts
Publishing
Television
What skills with I develop?
As you work through the course, you will gain an awareness of the opportunities and jobs in the different sectors - and you will develop transferable employability skills, including:
an understanding of the workplace and the employee’s responsibilities (eg time-keeping, appearance, customer care)
self-evaluation skills
positive attitude to learning
flexible approaches to solving problems
adaptability and positive attitude to change
confidence to set goals, reflect and learn from experience
skills to become effective job-seekers and employees
What could be helpful?
A willingness to work co-operatively with others is important as lots of the work you do will be in teams. An interest in the Creative Industries, particularly film and photography is also desirable but not essential.
How will I be assessed?
Throughout the course you will collate a Portfolio of evidence that will demonstrates the skills and knowledge that you have gained in each unit. At the end of the year there will be a final project, which may (among other things) be a short film, an animation, comic strip or portfolio of photography.
As pass in the course is achieve with the successful completion of all four units.
What can I do with this qualification?
An advantage of this course is the focus on employability skills as well as the knowledge and skills relating to the Creative Industries. These skills are attractive to employers, no matter what field they work in.
One progression pathway in school to is to study NPA Film & Media at SCQF Level 6.
There may also be opportunities to continue work in media at College. There are a wide range of courses in this field.
