Reece works on sculptures using recycled products. All of his sculptures are made from objects he has found out in the local community. He makes abstract sculptures of his family members, friends and people who support him. He also makes abstract projects that tell stories, explore the natural world and give new use to thrown away items.
He works with an artist from ArtLink and turns his finds into art. Once completed his works are given away – he then starts on his next project.
He is committed to his work and will gather materials from everywhere he goes. He says that “one person’s junk is his treasure”. If he doesn’t use any materials he finds, he takes them to the recycling centre.
Each week he spends time looking for his treasures in parks, at roadsides, in woodlands, car parks, pavements and beaches – anywhere where things get discarded. He will find the smallest of objects which can be the start of his next creation so his sculptures all have their own history as everything he finds “has as a story up to the time I find it”.
Reece was nominated for the impact his art and sculpture has on his family and people around him. Reece finds the world around him a challenging place. He has faced and still faces huge challenges in his life and wants to show the people who have helped him what they mean to him. He uses his sculptures to show people close to him what he thinks about them in a creative and (often) humorous way.
